Rosacea & Thread Vein Treatments

Treat Rosacea & Thread Veins Talk to us about the treatments available to you.

Causes and aggravating factors of facial thread veins may be environmental i.e. sun and wind damage, genetic, lifestyle e.g. alcohol and triggers of facial flushing that can include coffee, tea, heat, exercise and emotion. Other causes can also be attributed to hereditary factors, oral contraception and hormone therapy

We can treat them using MPL which triggers the collapse of the veins and broken capillaries without doing any damage to the surrounding outer layers of skin and improves the overall appearance of the skin by evening out skin tone and encouraging the production of collagen.

FAQs On Rosacea & Thread Vein Treatments

Does The Treatment Hurt?

As with all MPL treatments no anaesthetics are required, and most people describe the sensation of the treatment as similar to that of a warm flick. You may find it comforting to cool the skin after the treatment; but most people do not need to.

We do however apply aloe vera and a hydrating serum.

How many treatments do I need?

The number of treatments you will require depends on the location and the severity of the thread veins, but several may be required though just one or two may suffice. Treatments  can be as often as once every three weeks.

What is rosacea?

Rosacea is a common but poorly understood chronic skin condition mainly affecting the face. The main symptom being episodes of flushing.

Other signs may include spots and persistent redness of their skin, small blood vessels becoming visible and in severe cases, the skin can thicken and enlarge, usually on and around the nose.

.

How does MPL help rosacea?

MPL can help reduce the signs and symptoms by targeting the blood vessels as described above.

It is important to be aware of the triggers and these can include, caffeine, alcohol, extreme hot & cold weather, sun, excessively greasy food and allergies.

What happens before my treatment?

For treatment you will be asked to keep your face as pale as possible by avoiding sun exposure before and during your course of treatment. On your first visit we will undertake a detailed consultation and a patch test On the first treatment the whole of the affected area will be treated, except men where the beard area is avoided.

Anything else I should know?

A course of 4-6 treatments at 4 week intervals produces the best benefit. Improvement may continue for many weeks after the course has finished. Rosacea is a relapsing condition and this treatment can drastically improve the appearance but does not cure the underlying condition of rosacea longer term, so you will need to come back occasionally for maintenance sessions.

How Does The Treatment Work?

MPL uses light to treat the dilated blood vessels in the face. These light waves are absorbed by haemoglobin within the blood (the substance that gives blood the reddish, purple colour) and converted into heat. This causes the walls of the vein to collapse which, in turn, stops the blood flow. Once this happens, the vein is slowly absorbed into the body, disappearing from sight. With the right course of treatment, the look of facial veins and capillaries become visibly reduced (or disappear).

It is not just the thread veins in the face, we can also treat thread veins on all parts of your body including the superficial veins in the facial, chest or leg areas. As the treatment relies on absorption of light by the haemoglobin in the blood, the most effective results are seen with light skin. The lighter the skin, the more pronounced the contrast between the vessel and the skin, making treatment easier. However, the inclusion of radio frequency in the treatments offered by SkinFirst ensure a more successful outcome with darker skin types than IPL alone.
